BERHAMPUR: Students boycotted classes and demonstrated on the Berhampur University campus on Saturday. Led by the president of the students’ union of university, Jhasaketan Padhi and its secretary Purna Chandra Das the agitating students demonstrated in front of the administrative block of the university. They were repeating their old demand of release of a student who was arrested by police from the university hostel last week. Demand release According to sources the release of this student has got delayed as he is unable to get bail due to continuing strike by the lawyers of the Ganjam bar association. He is unable to move the bail petition as Berhampur court remains closed. Due to it the arrested student languishes in Berhampur circle jail since a week. The students are demanding unconditional release of the arrested student. The agitating students were pacified only after the Vice-Chancellor of the university; B.K.Sahu promised that he would take up the matter with the administration and judiciary on Monday for release of the arrested student from jail. Following this promise of Mr. Sahu to the students’ union secretary, the students called off their agitation in the afternoon with the promise that they would not disrupt the examinations that are to be held on Monday.
