Japanese jumps off railway bridge

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A young Japanese national sustained serious injuries when he allegedly jumped from a railway bridge at Moti Bagh here on Saturday. The police are trying to establish his identity.

The Japanese national was spotted standing on the railing of the railway bridge around 4 p.m. by some passers-by who informed the police. Subsequently, the local police and two teams of the Delhi Fire Service reached the spot. While they were trying to convince the man to get down, he jumped from the bridge, sustaining injuries in the head and other parts of the body.

The police rushed him to Safdarjung Hospital where he has been kept under observation. Some yen currency was found in his possession, revealing that he was a Japanese national. Accordingly, an interpreter was arranged to learn more about him, but he did not reveal much because of the influence of medicines.

The police have informed the Japanese Embassy authorities about the incident.
