KOCHI: Most of the domestic violence cases originated from simple issues and they could be sorted out at Adalats. At least 2-3 per cent of the complaints registered related to domestic violence and these came from all strata of society, said Manoj Abraham, City Police Commissioner. He was inaugurating an awareness seminar on legal protection for women and children and Adalat organised by the State Women’s Cell of the Kerala Police here on Saturday. Out of a total 54 cases that came up at the Adalat, 39 were settled, five recommended for follow-up and 10 were not considered as both parties failed to turn up. One case was referred to the Ernakulam Town Central Police to register criminal case. Sam Christie Daniel, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Narcotic Cell, presided over the programme. P.K. Eliyamma, Superintendent of Police, State Women’s Cell; C. Jayachandran Nair, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Special Branch; D.S. Suneesh Babu, Circle Inspector, City Traffic West; Jaison Vadassery, assistant director, Ernakulam Social Service Society; Shyamala Prabhu, Corporation councillor, and Gladys Mary George, head of the department of sociology, St. Teresa’s College, spoke. Baby Rani, assistant director, BSNL Ernakulam; Chandrasekhar, advocate, Kerala High Court, and Praisy Joseph, government pleader, Kerala High Court, addressed the seminar, which focussed on Domestic Violence Prevention Act 2005.
