Yakubu scores winner

MUMBAI: Yusif Yakubu, tightly marked by Air-India defence, capitalised on a momentary lapse to score the decisive goal in Mahindra United’s 1-0 victory in the ONGC Cup football I-League 17th round tie at the Cooperage on Saturday.

Yakubu from Ghana, coming back after a long layoff due to injury, scored the match-winner to take his team to the fifth spot (27 points) and also picked up the Man of the Match award. Air-India remains in the seventh position with 17 points.

Ivory Coast playmaker Douhou Pierre broke free of his marker, slipped a timely pass for Yakubu. The Ghanaian scored with a neat placement past Arnab Das Sarma. — Special Correspondent
