Making out a case for ‘desi’ art forms
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: Propagation and promotion of “desi” art forms in a disciplined manner will help address all Kannada-related issues and strengthen the State’s cultural scenario, music director and lyricist of Kannada cinema Hamsalekha has said.
He was speaking at the monthly interactive session, “Maneyangaladalli Maatukate,” organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture here on Saturday.
Stating that he had been making efforts in that direction by opening a non-commercial charity school, Mr. Hamsalekha said that effective employment of native art forms would fulfil the creative needs of the day.
Audience taste
Asserting that remake cinema had proved detrimental to talent, Mr. Hamsalekha said it would corrupt audience taste and cultural outlook if encouraged either by the Government.
On the problems of the Kannada cinema industry, Mr. Hamsalekha said despite the ups and downs and the entry of unqualified people such as unethical money-lenders and realtors into the field, the industry had been managing to produce good films.
