Farmers to get marketing lessons

Three-day awareness camp from Wednesday


Farmers to be updated on schemes

Marketing experts to impart training


MALAPPURAM: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Malappuram, will organise a marketing awareness camp for farmers on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The three-day camp will be held at the Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering Technology (KCAET), Tavanur, where the KVK functions.

Helping hand

The camp, to be held in association with the Central Directorate of Marketing and Inspection, will deal with various aspects of marketing as part of helping farmers to effectively counter the ill-effects of globalisation. Tavanur grama panchayat president M. Chathappan will inaugurate the camp. P.V. Habeeb Rahman, head of the KVK, Malappuram, will preside over the function.

Noohu Kannu, senior marketing officer at the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection, will introduce the topic.

KVK officials said that the programme would aim at creating awareness among the farmers about futures trading, godowns and their functions, role of banks in marketing, role of NABARD in implementing various schemes, marketing problems in organic farming, food safety, post-harvest handling and value addition, marketing problems in animal husbandry fields, and market-led extension.

Marketing experts will handle classes on different topics.

The faculty will include Dr. Habeeb Rahman; Philip Sabu K (College of Cooperation and Banking, Mannuthy); V.P. Gopinathan, assistant general manager, NABARD; K. Rajan, zonal manager of Warehousing Corporation; G.S. Sreedaya, Suraj P.T. and Seeja Thomachan (assistant professors at KVK, Malappuram), and P.K. Hameed Kutty, marketing officer at the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection.
