Notification on speed governor to be kept in abeyance

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: The Goa Government on Saturday decided to keep in abeyance its notification to make speed governors mandatory for heavy vehicles, in the face of the continued opposition from heavy vehicle operators.

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said that the decision was taken “in view of the examinations”.

The Government on Friday invoked the provisions of Essential Services Maintenance Act following threats of strike issued by the bus and truck operators in case the Government went ahead with its decision to implement the notification. He said the Government was apprehensive that students might face inconvenience in the midst of their exams if the bus operators went on strike.
