Man wanted in abduction case held

Bhadohi (UP): A carpet exporter wanted in connection with the abduction of the daughter of a social activist has been arrested, police said here on Sunday. Gulam Rasul, a carpet exporter, against whom the activist B.K. Rai had launched a campaign for allegedly sexually exploiting his Dalit maid, was taken into custody in Lalanagar area here yesterday, SP Bhadohi S.N. Upadhyay said.

An FIR was registered against him on February 5 in connection with the alleged abduction of Rai’s daughter, who is yet to be traced. A complaint was also lodged last month against Rasul and his three brothers for allegedly exploiting a Dalit maid sexually for over a decade. A number of social organisations were demanding his arrest for the past one month.
