Government hospitals in Perambalur district to be upgraded

Government likely to start medical college in the district

PERAMBALUR: Government hospitals in Perambalur district would be upgraded at a cost of Rs.21.20 crore and the district headquarters hospital would be shifted to a spacious campus soon, A. Raja, Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology, said here on Sunday.
The Minister, who represents the Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency, said the headquarters hospital would be shifted to a 17-acre site at Kaulpalayam and a new modern building would be constructed at a cost of Rs.2.75 crore. The World Bank has allotted Rs.12.20 crore for upgrading the hospitals in the integrated Peramblur district (including the newly carved out Ariyalur district) and the Tata Foundation has allotted Rs.9 crore, Mr. Raja said speaking at the Hospital Day function at the Perambalur Government Hospital.
Mr. Raja also indicated that the State Government was likely to start a medical college in Perambalur and an announcement was expected from the Chief Minister soon.
Collector Anil Meshram, Superintendent of Police Prem Anand Sinha, District Revenue Officer P. Shankar, Joint Director of Health Gandhimathi, MLA M. Rajkumar and others participated.
