CHENNAI: More than 2,000 persons were screened at a preventive healthcare camp at the Trustpuram Corporation Middle School, Kodambakkam, on Saturday.
Treatment was offered for various conditions including anaemia, vitamin deficiencies, sexually-transmitted diseases, heart, skin, eye and psychiatric conditions. Paediatric and maternal health was also assessed at the camp organised by the Chennai Corporation.
A total of 59 participants were found to be diabetic. More than 900 were screened for hypertension and 161 diagnosed with the condition.
Three cases of cervical cancer and 32 cases of cataract in patients were also detected. About 90 cases were referred to hospitals.
Participants were provided with tests, diagnoses and free medicines.
The Chennai Corporation plans to hold 30 ‘Varummun Kappom’ camps this year.
The local body had held 41 such camps over the last year. Over 93,000 people had participated.
The ‘Varummun Kappom’ scheme is a State government initiative to improve awareness of preventive healthcare and improve access to healthcare for the underprivileged sections of society.
