Union Minister inaugurates health camp

Some 100 doctors conducting the camp at JNTU grounds
Rs. 14 cr sanctioned for district under NRHM

Kakinada: Union Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju on Sunday asserted that concerted efforts were being made by the Central Government to render better healthcare services to people.

As part of its endeavour, the Government was implementing National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and Rajiv Arogyasri schemes with focus on rural areas where a large number of people had no access to quality health care facilities.

Inaugurating a three-day mega health camp under the NRHM at JNTU Engineering College grounds here on Sunday, Mr. Pallam Raju said the Central Government has increased the budgetary allocations to improve healthcare facilities and also educate people about how to protect themselves from various diseases.

Similarly, the State Governments were asked to make adequate allocations for health care and efforts were being made in that direction.

Mr. Pallam Raju said people of Kakinada Parliamentary constituency could avail of the health camp being conducted at JNTU grounds, where nearly 100 doctors drawn from the Medical and Health Department, Indian Medical Association, AP Vaidya Vidhana Parishad and Indian Navy were conducting tests.

A sum of Rs 8 lakh has been allocated for the camp, half of it for distribution of medicines.

District Collector M Subrahmanyam said that a sum of Rs 14 crore was sanctioned for the district for health care and sanitation under the NRHM.

Till now, 1,308 persons underwent surgeries under the Arogyasri scheme, on which the State Government spent nearly Rs 6.5 crore.

Zilla Parishad chairman Ch Venugopala Krishna, MLAs Mutha Gopalakrishna, TV Narasimham and V Subba Rao, Kakinada Mayor K Saroja, District Medical and Health Officer D Vijay Kumar, Kakinada Market Committee chairperson N Radha and others participated.
