Shameful attitude

The arrest of MNS leader Raj Thackeray and his subsequent release on bail seemed like a well-planned drama. It set a bad precedent. A guarantee bond should have been taken from Mr. Thackeray that no further violence would follow in the State against any person, especially North Indians.

Yogini D. Chauhan,

At a time when India is emerging as a knowledge-powered economy, the attempts by some at destabilising the country known for its “unity in diversity” are puerile, shameful, and smack of diversionary tactics. It is imperative to ignore and sideline such sinister designs of the self-proclaimed regional champions who thrive in the garb of safeguarding local interests. Let us only hope that the Mumbai incidents are not replicated elsewhere in the country.

Today, there is need for the true Indian to stand up and raise his voice against the injustice done to North Indian migrants in Maharashtra. There is need to raise the voice against political parties that are out to divide the country in the name of god, religion, caste, and community.

There is need for the true Indian to awake and arise to bring a unity in the country that is not hampered by the biased political leaders and parties. Will the true Indian please stand up?

Cajetan Peter D’Souza,

The sane warning of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue of domicile divide has not come a day soon. It is tragic that even after half a century of freedom, some of our politicians are resorting to dishonourable methods to gain popularity.

The feeling of oneness should cross all frontiers of religion, caste, creed, physical and political barriers and unite the people of this great land.

R. Devarajan

Mr. Thackeray and his ilk should realise that people from other States have also contributed a lot towards Maharashtra’s development and have every right to stay there. It is important to promote communal harmony among the people and not give any opportunity to any foreign external power to take advantage of the situation.

Nagesh Belapure,

Secunderabad
