The edit page article, Operationalising the “responsibility to protect” (Feb. 15) on the U.N.’s efforts is thought-provoking. On Thursday, I read about Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s apology to his country’s indigenous people for the wrongs committed against them for centuries. A recent article says the population of Hindus in Pakistan has dwindled from 15 per cent at the time of Partition to one per cent now. There is a plethora of other reports about genocides, organised crimes, and suppression from all over the world. The world body should activate civil society to take responsibility and a stand against all such evils at the global level for the wellbeing of all. Let all U.N. member states introspect over their past performance and rededicate themselves to R2P. P.V. Krishnan Nair, Kozhikode
