ITBP men, CRPF women win

KOCHI: Indo-Tibetan Border Police men and Central Reserve Police Force women won the team titles in the National senior judo championship which concluded at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium here on Sunday evening.

Services’s Khadem Yaima Singh, who picked the men’s open gold, and CRPF’s 63-kg bronze medallist L.Brojeswari Devi were adjudged as the best judokas in the men’s and women’s sections. And for the first time in the championship’s history, both received cash prizes.

Team championships: Men: 1. ITBP (14 pts), 2. Services SCB (11).

Women: 1. CRPF (25 pts), 2. Haryana (12).

Best judokas: Khadem Yaima Singh (Services, men), L. Brojeswari Devi (CRPF, women).

The results (finals): Men, 60 kg: Navjyot Singh (Punj) bt Ashwini (Hary) by ippon. Bronze: C.H. Rasi Chandra (Mpr) & Veer Bahadur Thapa (U.P.).

Open: Yaima Singh (Services) bt Pradeep Tokas (CRPF) by ippon. Bronze: Malkit (WB) & Anil Kumar (ITBP).

Women: 48 kg: K.H.Tombi Devi (CRPF) bt Suchika (MP) by ippon. Bronze: Bembem (Jkd) & Janita (Hary).

Open: Nirupama Devi (CRPF) bt Aruna (Hary) by ippon. Bronze: Garima Choudhary (U.P.) & Bittu Sharma (MP).

Friday’s finals: Men, 73 kg: Ram Asrey (U.P.) bt Karambir Singh (CRPF). Bronze: Kamaljeet Singh (Punj) & Satpal Choudhary (Raj).

81 kg: Shamsher Singh (Chd) bt Khadem Yaima Singh (CRPF). Bronze: Ragesh Kumar (BSF) & Virender Singh (ITBP).

100 kg: Narender Singh (CISF) bt Jatinder Pal (Punj). Bronze: Virender Singh (ITBP) & Subash Chandra (Raj).

Women, 78 kg: Arti Kohli (CISF) bt Bittu Sharma (MP). Bronze: Jaya Choudhary (Jkd) & K. Devi Shree (Karn). — Principal Correspondent
