750 free CTVs distributed in Perambalur

PERAMBALUR: About 22,500 families in Perambalur district and 33,802 families in Ariyalur district have been provided free colour television sets so far, according to A.Raja, Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology.

About 18,541 persons have been provided free gas stoves with LPG connections so far in the combined Perambalur district, he said launching the third phase of the distribution of free colour television sets at Adhanur in Kunnan taluk in Perambalur district on Sunday. The Minister distributed free colour television sets to 750 families and free gas stoves to 950 families.

Mr.Raja said a combined drinking water scheme for four panchayat unions of Perambalur district was being executed at a cost of Rs.300 crore. The scheme would ensure supply of potable water to all parts of the district.

Collector Anil Meshram, Superintendent of Police Prem Anand Sinha, District Pacnhayat President Kodiyarasi Duraisamy and others spoke.

Ariyalur

The distribution of colour TV sets at Ariyalur was inaugurated by T.P.M.Mohideen Khan, Minister for Environment and Sports, at a function held at Sirukalathur near Senthurai. The Minister distributed TV sets to 1,031 families and free gas stoves to 1,400 families. Collector Xavier Chrisso Nayagam, MLA S. S.Shivashankar and others spoke.

Pudukottai

At Pudukottai, Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests S. Regupathy inaugurated the third phase of the colour TV distribution at Gandhavarkottai.

Four thousand one hundred and eighty five persons were given the TV sets on Sunday, taking the total number of beneficiaries to 58, 448 so far under the scheme. The Minister also distributed free gas stoves with LPG connections to 2,352 beneficiaries.

Karur

Information Minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi launched the TV distribution at Nanniyur near here on Sunday. A total of 1,298 television sets worth Rs. 35.56 lakh were handed over to beneficiaries from the Nanniyur Pudur panchayat and nearby areas.

It has been planned to distribute 58,000 colour television sets in Karur district in the third phase of the scheme, according to Collector T.N. Venkatesh.

Stating that the district was meeting the quarterly targets in colour television distribution, Mr. Venkatesh said that in the first two phases, a total of 44,272 colour television sets worth Rs. 12.13 crore were distributed to beneficiaries in 61 panchayats.

Similarly, under the scheme to distribute LPG connections and stoves during the third phase, 4,932 connections and stoves would be given. On the occasion, 1,786 people got the benefit. Mr. Venkatesh said that Rs. 38 lakh worth works including road development and school construction, have been undertaken in the Nanniyur Pudur Panchayat.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Parithi Ilamvazhuthi said that many had doubted the promise of the DMK during the run-up to the last Assembly elections but had to beat a hasty retreat as the promise became a reality. The DMK would strive for uplift of the downtrodden in the path of Periyar

E.V. Ramasamy Naicker and party founder C.N. Annadurai under the leadership of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, he said.

Nagapattinam

As many as 87,000 free colour television sets will be distributed in the district during the current year, said S.N.M. Ubayathullah, Minister for Commercial Taxes, on Sunday.

The Minister, who distributed 1,063 free colour television sets to beneficiaries from Neikuppai, Virkudi, Kongarayanallur and Narimanam and free LPG gas stoves with connections to 50 families at a function in Neikuppai village in the district, highlighted the various welfare schemes and projects being implemented by the State Government for the benefit of the people.

He said that a new road bridge would be built at Seeyathamangai village at a cost of Rs.1.10 crore.
