The recent reshuffle of the Cabinet by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is quite disappointing as the MLA from Berhampur constitutency Ramesh Chandra Chau Patnaik has not been given portfolio though he scored a hat-trick by winning with a huge from the constitutency. The people of Berhampur are disappointed. The MLA is a man of the masses and won the hearts of people . Further he strived hard for the unity of both Oriya and Telugu communities . Both Chandrasekhar Sahu, MP, and Mr. Patnaik are rendering services to their constituency. While Mr. Sahu has been accommodated in the Union Cabinet, Mr. Patnaik has been left out. Hope the Chief Minister would set things right. . S.R.Krishna Berhampur Check Maoist activityIt is high time the Maoists in India to brushed up their knowledge regarding the State of ‘Maoism in practice’ in its birthplace, China. China has grown out of Maoism. Its society has started to evolve. But the blind followers of Maoism are caught in a time wrap. The neo-Maoists therefore exist only in underdeveloped pockets of the world in a world of day dreams. Their impractical utopian dreams are easily gobbled up by the illiterates rather than the educated. They just create ignorant criminals when they hand over a gun to an illiterate peasant who may not know why he is part of their so called ‘revolution’. Any kind of fanaticism whether religious, political or emotional is a bane for the ever evolving human society. The Central and State Governments should deal with this menace firmly. It seems these elements are part of a larger conspiracy to create a chaotic situation throughout the country. They may be dancing to the tune of some bigger conspirators unknowingly. The designs of a few disgruntled elements to destroy the democratic governance in the country through sporadic incidents of violence like the one at Nayagarh, needs to be checked . Sampoorna Mohanty Pipili Wasted effort? The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has launched painting of all boundary walls at important junctions in an attempt to give the city an aesthetic look. We don’t know how long the painting would last on those walls and how long the administration could save those from advertisement-hungry agencies. It has been widely reported by newspapers that BMC has roped in several corporate houses to paint boundary walls. The industrial houses are donating lakhs of rupees for the purpose. But my question is whether developmental work should come first or beautification should be given priority. I am requesting mayor to visit some of the areas such as Sahid Nagar, Laxmisagar and Rasulgarh, and see how people are managing without a proper road. Drain water comes on to road and some time streetlights do not function. Beautification is for those who would get off from flight and take the best road to visit Infocity. For people at large streetlights, drainage, water supply and lights come first. Sourabh Behera Bhubaneswar
