Sylvan surroundings : Karuna in a still from ‘Vihari’ She is definitely going places. Very selective, staying away from the routine and being confident of luck on her side, Karuna has made a mark for herself on the small screen. In the process, the chirpy anchor has not only been travelling the length and breath of the country but she is also taking viewers along. If the travel show ‘Vihari’ helped to establish her, Karuna is now looking forward to further consolidate her position on the telly with ‘Yuva’, the serial on Maa TV. In between, the 20-year-old Marathi girl flashed on the big screen with a role in ‘Mantra’ which is running successfully in theatres. The silver screen also beckoned her with another role in ‘Call Centre’. “My career is happening the way I want it to be and I am quite satisfied and happy at that,” she says. Born and brought up in the city, she is quite comfortable with Telugu which really helped in her career. “I love travelling and the travel show has helped me realise this passion. I am going all over the country. And I was particularly elated while shooting destinations in Maharashtra since that is where my mother hails from,” laughs Karuna. For four years she has been livening up the Sunday mornings with herself in the backdrop of stunning landscapes, misty mountains and sandy beaches. “The travelogue offered me something different from the regular stuff and did wonders to my career. I am not really that comfortable doing shows which entail me to stop passersby with run-of-the-mill questions like ‘Ela Unnaru’ or ‘Bagunnara’,” she says candidly. Now ‘Yuva’ is also happening and Karuna’s career is rocking with this breezy serial for youngsters. The youngsters need youth-specific entertainment ,” she remarks. T. LALITH SINGH
