Japanese tourist identified

Staff Reporter

His family has been informed about the incident

NEW DELHI: The young Japanese national who allegedly jumped off a railway bridge at Moti Bagh here over the weekend has been identified as Nshinnsuke Okno of Toyoama.

According to the police, the 27-year-old had come to India on tourist visa on February 13 and was scheduled to return to Japan on March 16. He had booked a room in Royal Palace Hotel in Karol Bagh on February 14 through a travelling agent in Gole Market and checked-out the next morning.

A case of attempt to suicide has also been registered against the young man who suffered head injuries in the alleged suicide bid.

“An interpreter has been arranged to seek more information about him, but he continues to be under the influence of medicines,” said Sub-Inspector Rajesh Kumar.

His family has been informed about the incident through the Japanese Embassy and is expected to reach India in a couple of days.

Okno was spotted standing on the railing of the railway bridge around 4 p.m. on Saturday by some passers-by who then informed the police. But he allegedly jumped off the bridge even as the police were trying to convince him to get down.

Okho, who was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after the incident, has now been shifted to Max Hospital.
