Kerala
The junction at Vattiyoorkavu, one of the busiest localities in the city, is congested. Vehicles turn towards Aruvikkara Dam, Peroorkada, Kulasekharam and Puliyarakonam from here. One cannot cross the road without the assistance of the police. People here have been demanding expansion of the junction for the past two decades. But the authorities have turned a deaf ear to the legitimate demand. The City Corporation and the government may take immediate measures for widening the road and the junction with modern amenities. G. Muraleedharan Vattiyoorkavu Misuse of drinking waterMost places in the district are affected by shortage of drinking water. About 80 per cent of the people in the city use water provided by the Kerala Water Authority. But some people misuse it for watering gardens and other purposes. This should not be allowed, as scarcity of drinking water has led to a grim situation in coastal areas and city limits. A regular check should be carried out against the misuse. The scarcity of water being a matter of concern, a solution is to be sought soon. Jishi R. Palayam
