Andhra Pradesh
The need for taxi services in the twin cities is increasing by the day. I appeal to the Transport authority to fix a minimum fare of Rs.100 for travel within the city so that the availability of the service to the public will increase. The taxi service has become a necessity for citizens to go to hospitals, rail and bus stations, shopping malls. Moreover people are in a position to afford the service. Even the parking problem could be addressed to some extent. I wish the Transport authority give this suggestion some thinking and do the needful. S.V.Subba Rao, Banjara Hills Closure of Begumpet airportThis has reference to the announcement by the Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel that there would no commercial operations from Begumpet Airport after the commissioning of the new International Airport at Shamshabad (Feb.13). There is now a section of people who are travelling by air because of the low fares offered by some airlines. However they would not be able to do so after the new airport starts functioning as the high cost of commuting by road to and from the new airport, levy of user development fees and toll tax on vehicles would make air travel expensive. The authorities concerned are, therefore, requested to consider permitting the domestic airlines to operate fifty per cent of their flights to all domestic destinations from Begumpet airport for the convenience of the budget travellers. G.J. Jayaraman, Sundernagar Acknowledgement dueI sent a letter to Mr. O.P. Bangia, Deputy Registrar, SR & E Division Block 9 (E x I ) IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi 110 068 by registered post acknowledgement due from HB Colony Moula Ali post office vide Reg No. 4881 dated January 08, 2008. On 24.01.08 the acknowledgement card was returned to me with the post mark of Moula Ali post office dated 24-01-08. It bears neither the signature of the addressee nor his office stamp. The question is whether the letter reached the addressee at all. What is the point in enclosing the acknowledgement card and paying extra money for it when it is not at all acknowledged? B. Krishna Moorthy, Moula Ali Mediclaim premiumsThe public sector insurance companies, like United India Insurance, have arbitrarily doubled the premiums on Mediclaim policies from this year. For example, myself and my wife who are senior citizens, were paying Rs.5,000 together against Rs.1 lakh sum insured for each of us till last year. Now, against this, we received renewal intimations with marginal increases in sums assured to pay almost Rs.11,000 towards renewable fees for this year. This clearly shows the Central Government’s utter disregard towards middle class and lower middle class people like us. In fact we expect the Government to at least maintain the same sums insured and reduce the premiums as cost of living is also going up and senior citizens have to manage their lives within their annual incomes. R.M.V.Bharath, Himayatnagar No concern for customerI purchased Hindustan Unilever’s “PURE IT” water purifier on 25-06-07. When I found leakage in the purifier I complained to customer care on August 12, 24, 30 and October 07 and they never attended. Now to replace the battery kit (chlorine) I phoned them on January 21, 24, 31 and February 4, 9 this year and it was the same again as nobody attented to my complaint. I request the authorities to immediately take act upon my complaint. My Customer I.D. No. is 624999808 J. S. Joseph Jeyaraj, Chintal Basti
