Discussion on displacement

NEW DELHI: The Front for Social Consciousness organised a discussion on “Anti-Displacement Struggles in Orissa; Their Significance and the Challenges Ahead” at the AIIMS here this past week. Addressing the gathering, Rajendra Sadangi, convener of Lok-Pakhya, a body of progressive intellectuals, said the policies being pursued by the Governments at the Centre and Bhubaneshwar in the name of industrialisation were actually policies of de-industrialisation. “These policies are uprooting the traditional economies of the people without providing any viable employment opportunities. Industries are being set up to fulfil the needs of foreign economies and not of the Indian people.”
