Sir, — There have been reports that the BBMP will allow advertisements on railings at the Cauvery underpass in Bangalore. But displaying advertisements may divert the attention of motorists, leading to slow movement of vehicles and accidents. The safety of people should be given due consideration by the BBMP. V.S. Ganeshan, Bangalore ‘Change water meters’Sir, —Water meters installed at houses often do not work owing to mechanical defects or for other reasons. This is because of the poor quality of meters. The meter reader finds it difficult to read the numbers correctly, resulting in recording of arbitrary figures. The time has come for the BWSSB to install better quality water meters. This would benefit not only the consumer, but also the BWSSB as the actual consumption could be recorded and charged. D.B.N. Murthy, Bangalore ‘Clear the drains’Sir, —The drains at Ramachandrapura, Jalahalli, have not been cleared for more than three months now. A lot of garbage could be seen in the drains on 7th Cross, Ward No. 8. Besides, there are no streetlights on this road for the last six months. S. Raja Reddy, Bangalore Asphalting of roadsSir, —In spite of numerous complaints, the 8th Cross and 7th ‘A’ Cross roads in ward 98, HMT Layout of R.T. Nagar have not been asphalted for long. When an enquiry was made, the ward engineer claimed that there was paucity of funds. However, the roads in the ward 97 are being asphalted regularly. I request the authorities to look into the matter immediately. P. Gangadharan Bangalore Poor state of roadSir,— The residents of GMR Layout and adjoining areas in B. Narayanapura are being put to untoward hardships owing to the pathetic condition of Aakash Nagar Main Road. This road acts as a gateway, connecting the Old Madras Road and the Kaggadaspura Main Road. Even when it drizzles, the road becomes slushy and non-motorable, posing a threat to motorists.
