Goa LS seats to be restructured

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: Goa will witness a restructuring of its two Lok Sabha constituencies as well as some of its Assembly segments, while retaining 40 Assembly constituencies in the new delimitation exercise.

According to the latest report, Goa will witness an increase in the composition of north Goa Lok Sabha constituency or Panaji constituency from 19 to 23, while the south Goa Lok Sabha constituency or Mormugao constituency will have a consequent reduction in its Assembly segments from 21 to 17. The Pernem electoral constituency of north Goa will be reserved for the Scheduled Castes for the Assembly election.

Pernem taluk will now have only two electoral constituencies, Pernem and Mandrem, with the present reserved constituency of Dhargal set to exit. The Canacona constituency in Canacona taluk of south Goa will be the lone seat in this taluk with the elimination of the Poinguinim seat.
