This Day That Age
The Rajya Sabha on February 17 passed unanimously the motion of thanks to the President’s address. The Home Minister Pandit G.B. Pant in his reply, answered the main criticisms raised in regard to Commonwealth membership, Kashmir and India, situation in the Punjab and the Second Plan. Pandit Pant announced that the services in Kashmir would be integrated with the services in the rest of India and “we will have one common service.” Similarly the Comptroller and Auditor-General of India, who had so far no control over the accounts of Jammu and Kashmir State, would be now in charge of the accounts also. Pandit Pant said that it was “a matter of regret” that Sheikh Abdullah, who at one time was an exponent of nationalism and condemned the two-nation theory, should have altogether changed his position.
