dated February 19, 1958: Remote control pupil

Anne-Grethe Hague, a 11-year-old Oslo school girl, has become Norway’s first remote control pupil, since she injured a leg in an accident last May and was unable to attend school. She has joined her class by direct telephone line. The voices of her teacher and classmates came into her home by loudspeaker – and by flicking a switch she could ask questions. Headmaster Olav Kvalheim, who studied telephone teaching methods at the Minnesota State Department of Education, said the system would be extended if this proved successful.
