The annual sports meet, “PROWESS 2007-08,” of Yagappa Matriculation School, Thanjavur, was celebrated with usual pomp and splendour. The meet featured 36 events for students from toddlers to class six. Chief guest T. Valliappan took the salute at an impressive march past by the four houses: Blue-Pluto, Green-Jupiter, Red-Mars and Yellow-Venus. Carrying the school flag and leading the parade were head boy E. Steven and head girl D. Sujithra. Heads of houses took the oath on behalf of all athletes. All events were monitored by sports co-ordinator Francis Yagappa. Trustee Mary Gnanam, correspondent A. Edward Arokiaraj and principal G. Vijayarajeshwari offered felicitations. The training programmes seem to have paid off, with all teams putting up a good performance. Grand celebrationThe seventh annual day of Indian Matriculation School in Thanjavur was celebrated in a grand manner on Saturday. Distributing prizes to students, Commercial Taxes Minister S.N.M. Ubayathullah exhorted them to cultivate helping tendency and honesty. Fr. Amudan Adigal of Thanjavur Multi-Purpose Service Society stressed the need to develop patriotism in the minds of students. N. Sharada, Inspector of Matriculation Schools; Ansari, correspondent; N. Shaik Serajudeen, chairman, Unipacific Group of Companies; B. Sivanandam, managing trustee of CS Matriculation School, Perumal, spoke. Karate competitionStudents of Guru Vidhyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Karur, won several prizes under various categories at the recently held State-level karate competition at Namakkal. Manojkumar and Manigandan won gold, while Naveen, Manoj, Geethanraj and Arun silver. Pothis and Anbudevan bagged bronze. Correspondent and principal J. Saseetha and karate master OM. Selvakumar congratulated the winners. Parade heldPonmari Vidhyalaya Matriculation School, Pudukottai, celebrated its sports day recently. Ponmari Educational Trust president Ramadas, managing director Lena Sokkalingam, trustees Annamalai and Ramamoorthy and Parent-Teacher Association president Jayaraman took part. Inspector of Matriculation Schools A. Mundaiyan was the chief guest and D. Premkumar presided over. A parade and the final round of track events was held. Musical chair, balancing acts, lemon and spoon and luck y dip were conducted for the staff and parents. Mr. Mundaiyan urged the students to fix a goal and work towards it. Yoga demonstration was held. The best student award was given to Rajesh and ‘Satonic’ was adjudged the best team. Correspondent Chandra Raveendran spoke. Question bankFree question bank for government and private schools in Pudukottai were distributed by Venkateswara Polytechnic College, Pudukottai. The headmasters of St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Government High School and Raniyar School and staff of various schools took part in the function. Class X students received the question bank at the function. College correspondents R.M.V. Kathiresan, P. Karupayya, Mohamed Nasar and R.A. Kumarasamy and principal Ramanathan spoke. p> Seminar organised Rotary Club of Pudukottai Midtown, Innerwheel Club of Pudukottai and Central Jaycees jointly conducted a motivational programme for class X and XII students at Sri Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai. The workshop, in which over 150 students took part, had sessions on examination techniques, confronting examination fear, improving concentration and frequently asked questions. Chairman of the school Dhanasekaran was the chief guest and Rotary Club pre sident V.N. Srinivasan presided over the event. K. Murugabarathi, R.M. Lakshmanan and R.
