An extravaganza of students’ films

Parul Sharma

NEW DELHI: The annual extravaganza of students’ films opened at Delhi University’s Indraprastha College for Women here on Monday.

The fourth edition of the two-day international students’ film festival, “Mise en Scene”, was inaugurated by the College Governing Body chairman Narain Prasad and the members of the jury. The festival began with a five-minute film made by students paying tribute to former College Principal Aruna Sitesh who passed away last year.

International films

The morning session began with the screening of seven films made by independent filmmakers, including “Gender Bender” by Poojita Chowdhury, daughter of Union Tourism Minister Renuka Chowdhury. On the first day, a competition for short films (both fiction and non-fiction) from one to ten minutes was held, showcasing 28 films.

On Tuesday, 12 long films directed by students will be screened. Apart from several Indian institutions, students from different countries like Pakistan, Japan, Australia and the United States of America will be presenting their works during the festival. The films will be judged by Manish Tiwari, Navdeep Singh and Surendra Hiwarale.

On-the-spot filmmaking

The college also held an on-the-spot filmmaking contest past week during which participating teams were given eight hours to shoot and edit their films. The results of all the competitions will be declared on Tuesday.

A photography competition-cum-exhibition, “Framepolitik”, has also been mounted on the college campus.

During Monday’s function, outstanding students were awarded prizes and scholarships, including the Shrimati Lajwanti Dua Memorial Scholarship instituted by media personality Vinod Dua in memory of his mother.
