St. Patrick School puts up good show at quiz contest

PUDUCHERRY: Students of St. Patrick School won awards in the Australian Chemistry Quiz held recently. As many as 844 students of the school participated in the quiz, which was held in 16 countries with over 1.17 lakh entries from 1,382 schools. Five students were awarded for their outstanding performance in the contest.

While 10 students were awarded for high distinction, 38 received prizes for achieving distinction. A total of 78 students received merit certificates.

Apart from this, school principal R. Fredrick received the award for the ‘best principal’ for supporting the students and teachers in the competition. The quiz was organised by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.

Meanwhile, three students of the school won cash rewards in Velammal’s State-Level Science Talent Search Examination conducted by Velammal Educational Trust, Chennai.

Passing out in flying colours

Twelve students of Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School passed out in flying colours at the National Talent Search Examination conducted for students of Standard VIII and X last November. Over 6,000 students of the Union Territory participated in the exam, of which 20 were selected at the preliminary level, including the 12 students of the school. Last year too, 14 of the 20 students selected were from the school. The exam, conducted by the Education Department, provides scholarship sponsored by the National Council of Educational Research and Training.

Five students of the school bagged prizes at the essay and elocution competitions organised by the Union Territory of Puducherry Legal Services Authority. The school has also bagged the Rolling Trophy this year.

Drawing masters honoured

The Education Department recently honoured Sivakumar and Christian, drawing masters of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School, for their contribution in preparing banners for the 34th Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Exhibition for Children.

Students of the school bagged a special shield for winning the maximum number of medals in various categories at the 24th Karate Tournament and Venkataranga Reddiar Memorial Tournament held recently.

Two students of the school also won prizes in the Pondicherry Amateur Athletic Association’s annual State Athletic Meet.

In the model examination organised by AIMS Education for higher secondary II year students the school secured the first place. A shield was presented to Rev. Father John Bosco, principal of the school, for the students’ performance.
