‘Theyyam’ fete

Kasaragod: The sleepy village of Neeleshwaram in Kasaragod district will come alive as it organises a six-day grand ‘Theyyam’ festival — Perunkaliyattam — after an 18-year gap from Tuesday. Although ‘Theyyam,’ one of the most outstanding folk arts of the State, is organised in Kannur and Kasaragod Districts from October last week to June first week every year, this art form and festivities have not been ‘exposed’ to the outside world. ‘Perunkaliyattam’ is aimed at highlighting the magnificence of village festivals, Folkland chairman V Jayarajan said. — PTI
