Commuters’ hardship

Panagudi is on NH 7 between Nagercoil-Tirunelveli with a population of 75,000. Various government departments are functioning at Panagudi. The bus stand is always crowded. Under government rule, no bus is

allowed to travel through bye-pass road. An order has been obtained from the authorities that all buses are allowed to ply through the bus-stand. Instead of the above order, more buses ply through the bye-pass road, stating that they are permitted to play through the bye-pass road by their authorities. Commuters face untold miseries.

G. Muthuramalingam,

Panagudi.

Allocate place

Each police station has vehicles involved in accidents, or those seized for want of licence or engaged in smuggling activities or hit-and-run vehicles, two-wheelers, tempos, trucks and cycles.

These vehicles are exposed to weather for years and become junks to be disposed of to hawkers.

It is suggested that a centralised “seized vehicle yard” be set up at each district headquarter. As and when order for release of vehicle is received from the court, vehicles may be released to the owner. This will not only help the vehicles to be retained in "as is where is" condition but also keep the police station premises clean.

Long distance

While the State Bank of India, Tiruchendur Branch, functions on Kalyanasundara Vinayagar Koil Street, the bank’s ATM is installed near the Subramaniya Swamy Temple.

The distance between them is about a kilometre.

Canara Bank has its ATM in front of it. In the interest of the account holders of the SBI, Tiruchendur Branch, I request the authorities to consider installing an ATM near the bank.

K.K. Krishnamurthy,

Tiruchendur.

II

The Reserve Bank of India has suggested that customers of one bank be allowed to use the ATMs of other banks without any charge. The RBI’s move is certainly towards making the banking industry more customer-centric.

But incidentally, the southern districts of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari do not have any ATMs of the Citibank, which is catering to the financial needs of the IT sector and other industries.

Industrial activities in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin have been increased like never before.

The Citibank authorities should establish their ATMs in Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari.

P. Senthil Saravana Durai,

Vazhavallan.
