The State has exempted itself from insuring government buses. Of late, it is a common sight to see government buses and property of government offices being attached for non-payment of compensation awarded by courts. Either, the Government should insure all its transport vehicles or create a separate sizeable corpus amount to give compensations awarded by courts, thereby avoiding attachment. Justice is equal to one and all and it is applicable to the Government too. Haji Asmabagh Anvardeen, Ramanathapuram. Signboard neededThe Commissioner of Transport recently sent a circular to all Regional Transport Offices to lay speed breakers near schools and install boards with the message ‘school zone’ to reduce speed. In Paramakudi, Alankaramatha High School, Don Bosco Matriculation School, J. J. E. M. Higher Secondary School and Sourashtra Higher Secondary School are on the NH 49 — Madurai- Rameswaram Road. Frequent accidents are taking place on the road. Being NH, there may not be possible to lay speed breaker. Hence, I request the transport and police authorities to put up a signboard and draw a zebra line to avoid accidents. V. Rajendran Paramakudi. Reservation counterWith reference to the news item regarding establishment of an e darshan reservation counter by the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam (The Hindu, dated 13.02.2008), I request that such a facility should be made available at Palani. Tourists, pilgrims, travellers visiting Palani throughout the year will be benefited by such facility. It is a fact that tourists influx at Palani has increased by leaps and bounds. M.S. Sankaran, Palani. Increase train serviceAt present, there is only one train being operated between Tuticorin and Mysore via Madurai, Dindigul, Salem and Bangalore. An immediate necessity has arisen to operate/ introduce an another train in the same route, in the backdrop of lot of Central and State projects like IT park in Madurai, nuclear thermal station at Koodangulam and increased cargo freight operations from Tuticorin. V. Sivaraj, Dindigul. IISouthern Railway officials announce now and then that the conversion of BG line from Karaikudi to Manamadurai would be completed by December 2007 and the BG service started in January. Of late, it has been announced that the BG train service will commence in March .This Manamadurai-Karaikudi BG line provides direct route to Chennai from Rameswaram which cuts short the journey time considerably. Moreover direct train service will be available from Rameswaram to north Indian cities like Delhi, Kasi, Pune, Thiruppathi and Jammu and Kashmir. I request the authorities to speed up the work. G. Nagasamy, Ramanathapuram.
