New Tehri: A Tehri court on Monday sentenced a man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for trying to burn his wife. Holding Vishwanathan Shankar Iyer guilty under the IPC section 307, District and Sessions Judge of Tehri Ram Singh also imposed a fine of Rs.3 lakh on him. The Judge said that out of the fine money, Rs.1.5 lakh would be given as compensation to Kunti, Iyer’s fourth wife. Iyer used to sexually abuse his previous wives before throwing them out of his home. He had married Kunti in December 2005 in Dehra Dun but used to live at another place in Tehri district. When Kunti went to the place where he had been staying, Iyer threw kerosene on her and tried to burn her on March 3, 2007.
