College student killed in car crash Crime notes

BANGALORE: A 22-year-old B.Com. student was killed when the car in which he was travelling overturned after hitting a median near Kolur Gate on Bangalore-Mysore Road on Sunday.

The victim, Hemant of Manjunath Nagar in Basaveshwara Nagar, was taking his friends Kiran Kumar, Manjunath and Chetan to a Café Coffee Day outlet when he lost control over his car which hit the road median and overturned around 1.30 a.m. Hemanth’s friends, however, escaped unhurt.

They shifted Hemanth to a hospital in Maddur where he died.

Killed

A 39-year-old technician of a private company was run over by a BMTC bus at the Kempe Gowda bus terminus on Saturday.

The police gave the name of the dead as Ramachandraiah, a resident of Yeshwantapur. He died at the K.C. General Hospital. Ramachandraiah was working in a company on Brigade Road and was a native of Madugiri in Tumkur district.

Injured

People threw stones at a BMTC bus near Katriguppe Junction after a motorcyclist was mowed down on Sunday. The police said people threw stones at the bus after its driver jumped the traffic signal and hit the motorcyclist Shivashankar (60).

A police constable admitted Shivashankar to a private hospital before shifting him to Sagar Apollo Hospital. Shivashankar was yet to regain consciousness, the police said.

The bus driver escaped.

Suicide

A 40-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at Sunakalbeedi on Saturday. Ashwath Narayana, a weaver, had incurred huge debts and was being troubled by financers to return their money, the police said.
