Train ticket booking counter

Aranthangi is an important business centre in Pudukottai district. I request the Tiruchi division of the Southern Railway to take steps to set up an advanced ticket booking counter at Aranthangi station for the benefit of the innumerable travelling public.

N. Ramkumar,

Aranthangi.

‘Unhygienic’ hotels

The hygienic conditions in some hotels at Mayiladuthurai is not up to the level.

Though the hotel owners charge exorbitant rate for the eatables served, they don’t pay necessary attention towards ‘cleanliness’.

Except the servers, the dresses of other employees look dirty. The sanitation condition of kitchen is pathetic.

All these show that the hotels are not inspected by the authorities concerned for a long time.

So, I request the district administration to take stringent action against violators.

R. Ganesan,

Mayiladuturai.

Branch library in bad shape

The branch library is located near the eastern border of Adirampattinam. This forces people living in other areas to travel more than 2 km to visit the library. There is no proper furniture and lighting facility.

The reference book count is minimal.

Only two sections, dailies and magazines, are functioning.

The officials concerned to should take appropriate steps to improve the standard and enhance the infrastructure of the library.

A. Haja Abdul Khader,

Adirampattinam.

Relay roads

Many streets in the Municipal Colony have not been relaid even after the completion of the execution of the underground drainage works in Thanjavur town. I request the Municipal authorities to lay these roads with immediate effect.

Kaiyamoorthy Kumar,

Thanjavur.

Income Tax for Central employees

In February every year, the Government employees have to submit their annual Income Tax returns. How can the Centre Government prescribe overall investment limit of Rs.1 lakh for the exemption of Income Tax, when they have been withdrawing half yearly advances from their GPF, savings, to make both ends meet.

By this peculiar process, the Centre has been indirectly encouraging corruption.

But the Centre can very well emulate the Tamil Nadu Government Profession Tax Act 1998 and levy half yearly Income Tax based on slab system and rescue the Government staff from this cumbersome process.

R.S. Moorthy,

Karur.

EB bill collection at post offices, banks

All nationalised banks and post offices in Tamil Nadu should be authorised to accept electricity bills like they collect telephone charges.

It is a pitiable sight to see some hundreds of women and men waiting in long queue for half-a-day to pay their electricity dues.

The government should do the needful at the earliest.

K. Santhanam,

Kumbakonam.
