Bangalore: The Akhila Karnataka Gadi Horata Samiti has announced a State-wide agitation on February 24 demanding more railway lines and facilities for the State. It said these proposals should be incorporated in the rail budget. Addressing members of the samiti and the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti, and Kannada Chaluvaligars here on Monday, the Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader and former MLA Vatal Nagaraj pointed out that the activists would picket 600 places throughout the State to highlight their demands. Mr. Nagaraj alleged that the Union governments, regardless of which party was in power, had been ignoring the legitimate demands of Kannadigas, whereas neighbouring States were getting the lion’s share of railway lines and projects. Criticising the Union Ministers and members of Parliament from the State for their silence over Mr. Lalu Prasad’s remarks, he demanded that the Railway Minister apologise to the people of the State. He condemned the inordinate delay in according the classical language tag to Kannada, and said that the Gadi Horata Samiti would boycott the functions attended by Union Ministers to highlight the step-motherly attitude towards the State. He demanded a white paper on the number of railway lines and the km of track in each of the south Indian States, so that the people realised the injustice done to Karnataka. He asked the State government and the private sector not to invite them for any function, till all the genuine demands of the Kannadigas were met.
