Prithvi scalps five

Bangalore: Prithvi Raj’s five for 11 helped set up Combined Mysore XI’s eight-wicket victory over Swastic Union CC in a MTR Nivarana Basavanagudi Cup All India invitation tournament match here on Monday.

The scores:

Swastic Union CC 87 in 16.1 overs (Prithvi Raj five for 11) lost to Combined Mysore XI 89 for two in 10.1 overs.

Herons CC 196 in 29.5 overs (Tejas Trishul 58) bt DTDC 179 in 29.2 overs (T.S. Prasad 45, G. Pradeep 44, G.K. Anil Kumar four for 21).

Malleswaram Gymkhana 184 for four in 30 overs (Suraj Sampath 70, Vijay Karthik 52) lost to Mysore Gymkhana 185 for eight in 28.4 overs (Chandan 74).

Jayanagar Colts 126 for eight in 30 overs lost to HAL 130 for three in 21.4 overs (Jay Kumar 49).

Mathur CC Shimoga 205 for six in 30 overs (Kiran 75, Prashanth 45, Ashok 45) lost to BPCL Cochin Refineries 208 for seven in 28.2 overs (Valeed 60, Arun Alex 55, Venugopal four for 42).

Combined City XI 163 in 29.5 overs (Vishwanathan 46) lost to Air India 166 for five in 28 overs (Chandrashekar 47).

Vel Socials wins

Vel Socials defeated Bharat Mata 2-1 in a State `C’ division football league match at the I.I.Sc Ground here on Monday.

Chandru (15th min.) and Suresh (42nd min.) scored for Vel while Karthik scored Bharat Mata’s lone goal in the 41st minute.

Hat-trick by Abase

Centre-forward and Kenyan student Abase’s four goals (which included a hat-trick, 60th, 65th & 80th min.), and a goal each by right-out Deecha (26th min.) and left-in Abhilash (55th min.), enabled Ganesha FC to register a well earned 6-2 win over defending champion Govt. Press FC, Mysore in the MDFA’s ‘A’ Division football league at the Doddakere Maidan grounds here on Monday.

Rukumeshkumar (25th min.) and Krishna (85th min.) were the scorers for the losers. Both the teams were level 1-1 at lemon time.

Flintoff set to return

Andrew Flintoff is almost certain to return to action after four months, the first time since he played in the ICC Twenty20 competition in South Africa.

He is likely to play for England Lions as a batsman in the one-day cricket match against a select Mumbai XI at the Brabourne Stadium, Cricket Club of India, on Tuesday.

Undergoing a rehabilitation programme to mend his ankle, Flintoff joined the Lions squad on February 10.
