Students and parents resort to road blockade

Staff Reporter

SRIVILLIPUTTUR: Traffic on the busy Madurai-Rajapalayam highway was disrupted for three hours on Monday after students and their parents blocked the road protesting against the administration of a women teacher training institute near here that “failed” to get approval for 50 students.

The administration that has been running the two-year course with an approval for 50 seats had given admission to an additional 50 students anticipating approval. However, till date, it could not get the approval, hence, the protest.

Tension prevailed outside the college as parents and students tried to prevent other students from appearing for examinations. The Aruppukottai Revenue Divisional Officer, O. Venkatesan, along with police officials, pacified the protestors. The officials, in the presence of the college chairman, V.P.M. Shankar, held talks.
