DSS activists stage dharna

Correspondent

Rehabilitation for ‘jeetha vimukhas’ sought

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Members of the Dalit Sangharsha

Samithi (DSS) launched an indefinite dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Monday, urging the Government to provide rehabilitation for “jeetha vimukhas” ( those freed from bonded labour).

The present political system followed an anti-Dalit policy, they alleged.

The Government had sanctioned land and issued title

deeds to freed bonded labourers in Chamarajanagar taluk 20 years ago.

They had urged the Government to take steps in this regard, but nothing had been done, the activists alleged.

They also submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner K. Vishwanath Reddy seeking steps to issue a circular to schools to celebrate the birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar on April 14.

They urged the Government to direct the Department of Education to declare summer holiday in schools and colleges after they celebrate the birth anniversary on April 14.
