Two run over by train

TAMBARAM: In separate accidents near Tambaram, two persons were killed after they were hit by speeding trains when they were crossing the track on Monday morning.

In the accident that took place near the Tambaram Sanatorium Railway Station, an unidentified woman, reported to be around 70 years old, died instantly after being hit by the Chennai-Guruvayur Express. The accident took place around 8.30 a.m. In the impact of the accident, the victim’s body was thrown to the platform, police told reporters.

Around 11.30 a.m., 22-year-old S. Prakash was killed on the spot when he was hit by the Pallavan Express while crossing the tracks at Irumbuliyur. According to police, eyewitnesses had seen the victim talking on a mobile phone while crossing the track.

Irumbuliyur is the scene of several fatal accidents involving pedestrians who crossed the track and also those walking across Grand Southern Trunk Road. One of the long pending demands of the residents of this thickly populated locality is setting up of permanent fences along the railway track.
