Girl slips into water sump, dies

Shravani, 3, died after falling into an open water sump near her residence at Balkampet in Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar on Monday. In another incident, the body of a four-year-old boy was found on the pavement at M. J. Market on Monday. The boy, who was yet to be identified, was clad in red shirt and white trouser. The body was preserved at the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for identification and autopsy.

Rs. 2.4 lakh snatched from businessman

Two motorcycle-borne youngsters allegedly snatched Rs. 2.4 lakh from a businessman, Taher, 40, at Lakdikapool on Monday. The Saifabad police said Taher came to HDFC bank to take a demand draft around 2.30 p.m.

Ends life after wife refuses to take call

A construction worker, who reportedly immolated himself after his wife refused to take a call, died while undergoing treatment in Gandhi Hospital on Monday, police said. The worker, Mohammed Basith, 30, a resident of Banjara Hills, made several calls to talk to his wife, Ghousia, on her mobile phone, but she refused to take the calls on Friday. He returned home in the night and quarrelled with her over the issue. Enraged, he doused himself with kerosene and set himself ablaze.

Two held, daggers seized

Two persons, who allegedly planned to extort money from locals threatening them with daggers, were arrested by the Chatrinaka police in old city in the early hours of Monday. Two daggers were seized from the accused persons, D. Ramu, 45, and his associate, Vikas Bhatnagar, 26, Inspector A. Venkatramana said.
