NEW DELHI: World champion Viswanathan Anand outplayed Norwegian wonder-boy Magnus Carlsen with a flawless endgame display in the third round of the Morelia-Linares round-robin chess tournament at Morelia, Mexico, on Sunday. Anand, who bounced back from the second-round defeat at the hands of Levon Aronian, has two points and trails leader Veselin Topalov by half a point. Topalov defeated Vassily Ivanchuk to head the eight-player field. The fourth round will be played after a day’s rest. The results: Third round: Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 1) lost to Viswanathan Anand (2); Veselin Topalov (Bul, 2.5) bt Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr, 1.5); Levon Aronian (Arm, 1.5) drew with Teimour Radjabov (Aze, 1); Peter Leko (Hun, 1.5) drew with Alexei Shirov (Esp, 1).
