Scribe held for extortion bid
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old journalist working for a fortnightly magazine has been arrested by the North Delhi police for allegedly threatening to “expose” a pharmacist and trying to extort money from him.
According to the police, a young man, later identified as Arvind Sinha, approached pharmacist Om Prakash, who supplies medicines to a CGHS dispensary at Kingsway Camp, a month ago and demanded Rs.5 lakh from him threatening to expose the alleged irregularities in the supply of medicines. He left behind a compact disc with the pharmacist threatening to air a sting operation showing alleged irregularities.
Arvind called him on February 7 and threatened again. At this, Om Prakash met Arvind in a restaurant at Connaught Place and promised to pay him Rs.1 lakh. The two again met on February 9 and Om Prakash gave him Rs.2,000. Arvind promised to give Om Prakash the proof, but again asked him to give the promised amount.
