One killed in fire at beach resort

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Babu, 55, a security and supervisor attached to Somatheeram Beach resort, near Chowara, died after he fell unconscious following a major fire that broke out at the resort on Friday night.

According to the Fire and Rescue Service Personnel, the fire broke out at the Ayurvedic health centres, thatched buildings, attached to the resort around 8 p.m. Following futile attempts by the employees of the resort to extinguish the fire, the Fire Service and Rescue personnel were alerted around 8.40 p.m.

The blaze was finally brought under control after nearly a half an hour operation from the part of the fire service units from Vizhinjam and Neyyattinkara. Assistant station officer D. Devarajan said that the exact cause for the fire was still unclear.
