BANGALORE: The outgoing students of classes X and XII of The Oxford Senior Secondary School (CBSE), J.P. Nagar took a pledge to spread the flame of knowledge and wisdom at the Jyothi Daan ceremony organised here on Monday. In all, 105 students reached the last stop of their school journey at the solemn ceremony marked with emotional as well as nostalgic moments. The ceremony began with the invocation by the school choir, followed by the lighting of the lamp of knowledge by S. Narasaraju, chairman of the institution. The class teachers of classes X and XII passed the flame of wisdom to the outgoing students. Chosen verses from scriptures of different religions were recited by teachers to bless the outgoing students. Delivering the Jyothi Daan message, Principal Mariamma. S. Mathew said that she eagerly anticipates the visits and the news they will share as alumni. A. Ramaswamy Iyengar, Director, Indological Library and Research Centre, taught the outgoing students the ABCDs of life. “Aim high. Be bold. Be cheerful and be dynamic,” he said. S. Ramesh Raju, executive director of the institution, impinged on the importance of the board examinations and said that this was “an important phase in the long, rewarding and enriching journey that began 12 to 14 years ago”. In his farewell speech, Hanuma Teja expressed his gratitude to his mentors as they have given him the courage to overcome the impossible. Mr. Narasaraju distributed hall tickets to the students. Students of classes IX and XI presented a dance in honour of the outgoing students.
