Bank documents destroyed Crime notes

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Computers, furniture and documents were destroyed in a fire that broke out at Canara Bank’s Hudson Circle branch in the early hours of Monday.

The police said that around 3.30 a.m. flames were noticed in the computer section of the bank situated in the Krishi Bhavan building, adjoining the Metropolitan Magistrate court complex. On being alerted, fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames. The Ulsoor Gate police, who have registered a case, said that property worth about Rs. 5 lakh was damaged. The police suspect that electric short circuit could have triggered the fire.

Two persons, including an elderly man, were killed in as many road accidents in the city on Monday.

The police said that around 7.45 a.m. an autorickshaw knocked down Ramachandran (87), a pedestrian, on Vatal Nagaraj Road near Okalipuram. Ramachandran, a resident of Okalipuram, was returning home after a walk. The Malleswaram traffic police have registered a case and seized the autorickshaw.
