BANGALORE: The veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader, M.C. Narasimhan, has been unanimously elected chairman of the State Control Commission of the party at the 20th State-level conference of the CPI held in Chikmagalur over the past three days.
The Control Commission is an important wing of the CPI which serves to settle all intra-party issues. Mr. Narasimhan (85) is the senior most CPI leader of the State.
The others elected were Siddanagouda Patil (State Secretary) and H.V. Ananthasubba Rao (Treasurer). The meeting elected 17 State executive committee members and 54 State committee members.
Mr. Siddanagouda Patil told The Hindu that the CPI has sought the support of the CPI (M) in finalising a strategy and working at defeating the game plan of the communal parties, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party.
CPI(M) State Secretary V.J.K. Nair addressed the CPI State conference.
