Non-stop trains from Bangalore sought
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Rajasthan Samaj Railway Sangarsh Samiti has urged Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to announce non-stop trains from Bangalore and introduce direct trains from the city to Amritsar, Gaya, Jammu and Varanasi in the Railway Budget for 2008-09.
Non-stop trains to places such as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Goa and Hubli not only save enormous journey time but also could attract passengers depending upon buses, said samiti president Prakash Mandoth in a memorandum to the Minister. He said the Railways can charge 15 per cent extra fare for these trains, which may comprise sleeper and three-tier air conditioned coaches in equal numbers.
The samiti regretted that despite the creation of the South Western Railway (SWR), rail connectivity between important cities and towns in Karnataka had not improved much. There was also a dearth of inter-city trains between Bangalore and other cities/towns in the State, whereas similar facilities were made available in neighbouring States.
