BANGALORE: For a 100 years now, the Main Research Station of the University of Agricultural Sciences at Hebbal in Bangalore has been working at developing technologies for farmers, a result seen in the National Productivity Council awards that it has received. On Wednesday, the station will observe its centenary celebrations. A building is being planned to commemorate the event. Four paper presentations will be held at 9.30 a.m. The inaugural function at 2.30 p.m. will be presided over by A. Ramaswamy, Principal Secretary (Agriculture and Horticulture). Started to initiate research in agriculture at a time when famine was a recurrent feature across the country, the 30 acres of land for the main research centre was donated by Maharani Kempananjammanni for initiating research on soil crop. The station concentrates on research in plant sciences, agricultural engineering, home science, animal science and fisheries.
