74 irrigation projects listed under ‘Jalayagnam’ in Andhra Pradesh

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has added 16 more projects to the list of projects taken up under Jalayagnam, taking the total number to 74.

Replying to the debate on the Governor’s Address in the Assembly on Tuesday, Dr Reddy, however, neither named out these 16 projects nor made any addition to the total outlay of Jalayagnam projected at Rs 1 lakh crores.

For the first time, he specified the 12 projects which have been completed so far. The following were their names: Alisagar, Guthpa, Chagalnadu, Swarnamukhi, Veligallu, Pedderu, Venkatanagaram, Kovvada Kalva, Surampalem, Peddagadda, Suddavagu and Ramathirtham Balancing Reservoir.

The Chief Minister also named out the 27 projects which he said would be completed by March next, providing irrigation to an additional ayacut of 16.6 lakh acres.Jalayagnam would provide water to 91 lakh acres through major and medium projects, and 10 lakh acres through minor schemes.
