Achuthanandan denies bias in sanctioning aid

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on Tuesday refuted the allegation of Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy that assistance sanctioned to 52,000 people by the previous government from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund was withheld by the present government.

The Chief Minister wondered whether Mr. Chandy sanctioned 52,000 applications in 21 months when Mr. Chandy was the Chief Minister.

If Mr. Chandy provided the list, the government was willing to consider eligible cases.

Mr. Achuthanandan said that the relief fund was empty when the UDF government demitted office.
